Welcome! This blog is meant to keep track of the different ideas I have to incorporate into my 5th grade classroom.

Upload a Word Doc from Scribd

SCHEDULE 2009-2010

Here is a word document of our class schedule that I uploaded to this site. The embed code was under the share tab.

Lots of sites to visit

I'm checking out this site to see which of these I can use with my students this year. Some of these I've already used, but quite a few I haven't. I will be trying out a bunch and putting examples onto this blog. Kind of fun to play around with these!

An Argument from aMap

This site allows you to create an argument and then students can add their thoughts and opinions to the argument. You need email addresses to create and add to the argument. The embed code was under the share.

Embedded venn diagram off of Classtools.net

You can make many different organizers including a venn diagram, timeline, countdown timer or a note. You can embed it by clicking on the gear icon in the bottom right corner. I want to use these with my students!

Non fiction Reading to Teach Strategies

These lessons will be great for teaching strategies like cause and effect, inference and summarizing. The lessons are well organized and make the students apply what they are learning. These will be great for test prep!

Great Reading Lessons

To get students back into reading strategies I would like to use these interactive lessons.

Stories Read by Famous Authors!

I want to project one of these stories onto the smart board for the class to see each week. They are really well done and fun to listen to!

Bellwork on a Wiki!

This year our classroom is going 1 to 1 computers, so I am going to try having students do their bell work on a wiki! Bell work is work that is completed first thing in the morning when a student enters the classroom. I've made pages for the first 3 days of school, which starts on a Wednesday. I think I will make a theme for each day of the week. It will look like this:

Mon. = Something off of the BrainPOP website. (Love the free videos and activities and they have quizzes too!)

Tue. = A reading, spelling or language activity such as this.

Wed. = An art activity such as this.

Thur. = A math activity such as this.

Fri. = Game day! I'm thinking of sites like this or this.

Here is a look at the first week of my wiki on bellwork. Remember, school starts on Wed. so Mon. and Tue. don't have anything right now.

I Made an Online Blogging Course!

As part of my master's program, I had to create an online course. I decided to make my class on creating and using a blog. Because I teach 5th grade, I thought Moodle was a little too much for my students. I wanted something simple and easy to navigate through. So I used Google Sites. I plan to begin this course sometime in November. Can't wait to see how it goes!

Use my iPod Touch to Record Reading Records!

Here is a great idea for recording students reading. One of the first things we do at the beginning of each year is have students read to us and record a reading record. When we are done there is no way to replay the reading. So this year I plan to use the record feature on my iPod Touch to record each student reading and put them somewhere (perhaps Power Point or a Podcast?). Then I will record each student again half way through the school year and at the end of the school year. I got this idea from this link.
